These guides were developed by Dr. Kay Lowe.   She has kindly given me permission to use them for my studio.  They are to be used in conjunction with the Practice Journal (see the semester Syllabus for more information).

First, print up one copy of the Song Study Guide entitled  STEPS TO LEARNING A SONG.    You will fill out this form as you work on each new piece.   In the appropriate box, please place the DATE you master each step for each piece.

Please familiarize yourself with the DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS for the Song Study Guide.  If necessary, print these so that you know exactly what each step entails.

Step three requires the document  TEXT - MUSIC - IMAGINATION.   You will need to print up one copy of this for each new piece.

I understand that you may have already begun work on many new pieces.  If this is the case, you should find it relatively quick to progress through these steps on a song, even if you did not use these particular steps to begin your study of it.

These study guides are REQUIRED for underclassmen, and strongly recommended for upperclassmen and graduate students.    Going through this process will help you with your practice and your practice journal.
